# Known issues — Linux experimental beta, 2026-09-07 These packages contain the application builds tested on 5–6 September. The application's previously recorded bugs have not been fixed in this packaging pass. This is an experimental tester build, not a general Linux release. ## Before the first test - Use one SDR display. Keep other color-temperature programs off while testing. - Leave **PWM-Safe**, **Allow Extreme Dim**, and **Launch at Login** off initially. - Save your work before testing. Change one control at a time, then try OFF and close the window normally before starting a longer session. - A moving slider is not proof that the desktop filter applied. Check a window outside TAP ZAP and report whether its colors actually changed. ## Confirmed application defects | Area | What can go wrong | |---|---| | X11 recovery | A crash can leave the filter applied. Restart/recovery can lose an existing calibration. Quitting while OFF can overwrite a newer color setting made by another program. | | Hardware brightness | If PWM-Safe is enabled, an abrupt app exit can leave hardware brightness at maximum and lose the previous value. | | Clipboard | Certain clipboard requests can crash the interface. Avoid the in-app support-copy function for initial tests; use the report template instead. | | Settings | The native settings parser accepts invalid numeric values; settings writes can also fail or truncate. The new launcher rejects invalid saved intensity/brightness before startup, but this does not fix the native parser or live writes. | | App responsiveness | A stalled local IPC connection can freeze the interface and prevent filter maintenance. | | Sway | A Wayland timeout can leave a filter active while the interface reports OFF. | | Plasma | Disconnecting a filtered monitor can prevent OFF/restoration and block subsequent launches. Do not hotplug displays while testing this build. | | Plasma HDR | Changing an already captured display into HDR is not reliably revalidated. Keep HDR off throughout the session. | | GNOME/recovery | Recovery identity across a complete session-bus restart and malformed recovery journals need further work. | | Startup / multiple copies | The older test launchers can route incorrectly after switching desktops. These packages use separate explicit launchers, but startup is still tied to the selected desktop and moving the extracted folder breaks its saved path. | | Error reporting | The interface does not consistently explain backend failures. Include the terminal error if it starts but does not filter. | ## If colors or brightness do not return Try OFF and then a normal window close. If the app stops responding or the display remains altered, save work where possible and log out of the graphical session, then log back in. Reapply your normal display color profile if necessary. This is a fallback recovery step, not a guarantee of exact calibration restoration. If PWM-Safe left the panel bright, adjust hardware brightness with its normal keys or monitor controls. Do not delete recovery-state files while a filter may still be active. ## What remains untested Broad AMD/NVIDIA display output, other Intel GPU generations, ARM64, HDR, multi-monitor hotplug, all fullscreen paths, and full suspend/resume across every desktop have not been established. GNOME and Sway have physical gamma readback tests, but final user confirmation of the visible filter/UI was still pending in the saved test record. Software color-control tests do not measure emitted spectra or flicker. This beta does not establish that a panel is PWM-free, including at maximum hardware brightness. It is a display-control utility and makes no medical claims. ## Omarchy / Hyprland 0.1.6 The Omarchy package uses its own Hyprland CTM backend and tray integration. Closing its window or pressing Escape hides the controls while the app continues running. Use Quit in the tray menu or `~/.local/bin/tapzap-omarchy quit` to exit. A competing CTM/night-light owner can prevent activation. See [Omarchy instructions](omarchy-README.md) for installation and requirements.
